 Gamal Khashoggi is a saudi journalist who went to Istanbul's country council and didn't come out since then. Many rumors came out as the time passed though no one found what actually happened with him until now. Egypt came out with the news that Gamal got killed in Istanbul. Personally I believe that maybe Gamal wrote or said something that would ruin Istanbul's reputation so they held him hostage, but then the story became popular and they decided to kill him. Though I also believe that Istanbul may have tortured him and he was just done with it and committed suicide.

Making choices doesn't literally mean having to choose, but he explains it in a way that is interpreted by having to live on with something that was manipulated and chosen for you, or something that you were able to contemplate whether or not you want it.
