Leading with Lollipops with Drew Dudley

Lollipop moment: A moment where someone said something or did something that you feel fundamentally made your life better.

Leadership is being defined as something that exists to change the world. There for people who do things that not everyone is able to do. During the TedTalk, Drew speaks about how he has done something when he was in his university, but because of how much he didn't think that something was going to make an affect, he didn't even remember doing it. As he was leaving university, he was stopped by a girl and was telling him about how he told her something that made her want to continue with university in addition to matching her with her future husband.

Googling what skills a leader should have: creativity, relationship building, decision making, critical thinking, etc. These skills are seen in many people's personalities which shows that a person may be a leader without actually knowing it. Proving what Drew Dudley presented at the beginning of his TedTalk.

I personally like the idea of leaders being people who are able to do things that not everyone else is capable of doing. Because if everyone is doing everything, why is a leader any different? However, I also think that being a "leader" has significant power in its name which gives it a very harsh connotation. That harsh connotation makes people fear from being called leaders; making them think that the leadership skills they actually do have are nonexistent. Even though being called a leader is a great quality, it does give the person stress about doing the perfect actions; it's like trying to consistently prove to people that they are worthy of being their leader.

My experience with the lollipop effect was actually someone telling me something. That something was about the effort I put in my education. A lot of people hear things like that, almost everyday, but for some reason it affected me so much. Every person probably knows what they are capable of, but it's different when the someone that tells you that is someone that saw you at your best and is now seeing you not working or reaching your highest potential. Ever since I got told that I have to start focusing more, I actually have and started having a schedule on when to do specific things rather then just living life and going with the flow.
